How not to fail the New Year’s Resolutions

In Blog

1st of January and everyone’s life is full of ‘changes’, challenges, motivations and all things:  I will be better, slimmer and healthier!

How? Why? New Year’s resolutions time.

Social media, press and every shop is trying to lure us into the vision of detox, well-being and health.

But how realistic it is to change our size, behaviour, thoughts and actions over night? Sure, with the new beginning the motivation and determination is strong and that focus can feed our actions but why set it all up for 1st of January?

The psychologist and nutritionist in me observed and states that 1st January is the most challenging date to choose for the long term changes. It is so cold and grey outside, the festive season is over, the wallet is skinny, moods low and body is overfed but nutrients starved, therefore not ready for drastic changes.

I hate to see my clients and friends setting the bar too high for themselves and then, unable to meet those self imposed high expectations, dropping their self esteem and  adapting self destructive behaviour.

While, making the list of gratitude for that past year and dreams, plans for the new year, I encourage you to drop the externally imposed resolutions for the 1st day of every year and start living with the new beginnings of your needs for any day, any time, and any year!

In my coaching, I encourage my clients to consider the yogic concept of SANKALPA, translated as intention encouragement formed by the heart or mind. So when entering the new beginning, tune in with our internal needs, something that is strongly calling for the change and personal evolution because when the hunger for change is personal, we are likely to succeed.

To support your intentions of the change  and new beginnings I encourage you to:

start today!  Don’t wait for tomorrow or…1st of January! When your heart is ready for a change take the opportunity to renew today (more of this in the next post)

recognize your happiness! When creating your list of gratitude, the chance is that you already have what you need (at least partially) so when we take the time to recognize when we are happy and what that feels like, it becomes easier to recreate it

embrace the change: whenever we make the effort to free ourselves of an addiction or a habit we no longer need, we are often surprised to find ourselves missing the old pattern as we would a familiar friend. Humans are creatures of habit. This is why we gravitate to people, places and patterns of behavior that make us feel comfortable. Embrace the change and with self-love accept the journey to the new learnt healthier lifestyle.

So if you are still craving the New Year’s changes, let’s endure a time of difficulty together! I am happily offering a Wellness and Nutrition Therapy and Coaching with 10% off  to everyone who craves the change and is looking for help and  support. We will confidently handle the challenge when we are constantly supported and reminded that the changes in our bodies, hearts, and minds need time to adjust to a new way of doing and being.  The adaptation for the new takes time. Small steps for big, long lasting results. Lets do it together! Let me help you to become new you in this new year!

Wishing you the year of Wellness
